On Wednesday November 3, 2010 the Big White Fire Department will be hosting another building managers workshop at the Inn at Big White. The fire department looks forward to welcoming everyone to another season. There will be a complimentary breakfast and social hour from 8am-9am and the workshop will go until about noon. Once again there will be a review of Fire Safety Plans and building systems for those that are either new to the job or would like a refresher. New for this year will be extinguisher training, fire drills and evacuations, and a live response scenario where property representatives can see how the emergency response system works from inside a truck or at the command post. Anyone interested in attending should contact the fire hall at 250-765-3090

From now until the snow is too deep to work in, you might see some fires burning in the forested areas surrounding the resort. In an effort to increase public safety and protect property from a major forest fire, Landmark Solutions Ltd. will be following a prescription burn plan for the community. This preventative measure involves thinning out the heavy surface fuels that have accumulated over the years. These efforts will improve the natural barriers and reduce the continuity of fuel loads which in turn reduces the wildfire risk to the Big White Community. The open forest conditions will also increase the availability and diversity of the wildlife habitat. Local residents are welcome to the firewood which will be created as a result of these activities, please contact the fire hall at 250-765-3090 for more information.
