I would like to welcome you to our Big White Fire Department website.
Big White is a resort community with a summertime population of two hundred residents and a winter population that exceeds 20,000 during the ski season.
BWFD has one fire hall, three engines, and four support vehicles. We respond to over 250 alarms a year with the majority occurring between November and April. We provide our community with a number of services that include fire suppression and prevention, medical first response and auto extrication.
Our department consists of a Fire Chief, a Deputy Chief, two Captains, twenty dedicated, paid-on-call firefighters and an additional complement of six full-time trainee firefighters. The full-time trainees are participates of an innovative work experience program that runs every year for ten months from July to April. This innovative program is in its ninth year and allows us the opportunity to staff our fire station with a crew on a twenty four hour seven days a week basis.
